Shortage of injectable esmolol

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists reports a shortage of injectable esmolol. This would be a real good time not to have an acute episode of supraventricular tachycardia or aortic dissection. Slow intravenous infusion of this drug is called for in both these emergency situations. It is also used if tachycardia or high blood pressure occurs during surgery.
