Shortage of fluocinolone acetonide intravitreal implant

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists reports a shortage of fluocinolone acetonide intravitreal implant. This drug formulation was specifically developed to treat posterior uveitis, but has also been used for diabetic macular edema. These are important causes of loss of vision and blindness.
