Shortage of injectable streptomycin

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists has reported a shortage of injectable streptomycin, which is a very old but still useful antibiotic used for infections by bacteria which have been proven sensitive to the drug. The only manufacturer is X-Gen Pharmaceuticals, which in this instance has not been successful in their aim as stated on their website.
Established in 2003 and based in Long Island, New York, the privately-owned family company remains committed to the long-standing vision of founder Dan Badia, whose strategic focus was centered on building a lineup of drug products long past patent expiration, but essential to the health care community.
This company's name appears infrequently on the drug shortage list, compared to others. The reason given for this specific shortage is a manufacturing delay. Based on Long Island, hopefully this company will successfully expand their product line, which might lead to fewer shortages overall.
