Comptroller Susan Combs was sued by three Austinites, who also requested a temporary injunction to prevent her from disbursing $25 million of state taxpayer money. The Austin Business Journal reported that the plaintiffs argued that the law's requirements for disbursal of money from the Texas Special Events Fund had not been met.
Travis County District Judge Rhonda Hurley has ruled against the plaintiffs based on the fact that the money had not yet been disbursed. Plaintiffs' attorney Jennifer Riggs is reported by the Austin American Statesman to have said that state law only gives the plaintiffs standing to sue before the money is disbursed.
Catch-22?
