Shortage of injectable 1% lidocaine

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists reports a shortage of injectable 1% lidocaine. This shortage is almost certainly related to the ongoing shortage of injectable 2% lidocaine. Both are injected locally for anesthesia and intravenously for irregular heartbeat.

These are reported drug shortages since my last post on the subject.

2% lidocaine for injection
This anesthetic is injected into the skin for local surgery. It is also injected into a vein to stop irregular, uncoordinated heartbeats.
phenobarbital for injection 
Besides preventing seizures, phenobarbital eases the withdrawal symptoms of a person addicted to other barbiturates.
naloxone for injection
Whether on the street or in the hospital, someone overdosed on an opium-based narcotic can be dramatically helped by an injection of naloxone.
cefotaxime for injection
This broad-spectrum antibiotic is used for a variety of serious bacterial infections.
neomycin oral solution
When the liver is not working correctly, ammonia that accumulates in the blood causes a serious brain disease. A special diet is used and neomycin is given orally to kill intestinal bacteria that produce ammonia.
copper chloride for injection
A person who is being fed intravenously requires copper.
