Shortage of tolmetin sodium

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists reports a shortage of tolmetin sodium. This drug is used to relieve the symptoms of adult and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and also osteoarthritis over the short term. There are significant possible side effects, so the lowest dose for the shortest time is desirable. Short-term pain relief is probably its best use, and alternatives should be sought for long-term treatment of these chronic inflammatory conditions.
