Shortage of injectable sodium lactate

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists reports a shortage of injectable sodium lactate. If your blood gets too acid, bad things are going to happen to you. Your doctor may choose to inject you intravenously with an appropriate amount of diluted sodium lactate to solve the problem. The body's normal metabolism converts the lactate to bicarbonate, which will neutralize acid in the blood.
