Shortage of injectable sodium morrhuate
The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists reports a shortage of injectable sodium morrhuate. Injection of this drug into varicosed veins first causes the lining to become inflamed and the blood pooled in the vein clots, resulting in complete closure of the vein and eventual growth of fibrous tissue in the space where blood was pooled.
