Shortage of aprepitant capsules

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists reports a shortage of aprepitant capsules. The 40 mg capsule labeled for the nausea that occurs after surgery is in short supply. The higher doses labeled for nausea associated with chemotherapy are available. Merck is the only US supplier of aprepitant, brand name Emend, and gives no reason for the shortage. Emend works only to prevent nausea and vomiting, it will not stop nausea and vomiting once they have begun. There are drugs which cause life-threatening reactions when taken with aprepitant, so have an in-depth discussion with your doctor.
