Shortage of injectable 10% arginine

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists reports a shortage of injectable 10% arginine. This drug is used to stimulate the pituitary gland to release human growth hormone. This is a diagnostic test to determine whether enough HGH is present in the body. This test has a 32% false positive and 27% false negative rate, so it is routinely performed twice after an initial insulin hypoglycemia test has indicated that not enough HGH is being produced by the pituitary.
