The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists reports a shortage of the injectable sodium salt of valproic acid. This drug is used for controlling seizures, particularly when someone cannot take the drug by mouth due to age, swallowing difficulty, or the seizures themselves. There are many reasons why the injection of this drug should be carefully supervised after a complete medical history has been obtained.
