Shortage of Calcium Acetate Capsules

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists reports a shortage of calcium acetate capsules. This is a very important medication for people who have had poorly controlled high blood pressure or diabetes for a couple of decades and whose kidneys as a result are barely functioning. When the kidneys aren't working well, phosphorus builds up in the blood and these capsules help prevent the phosphorus in food from being absorbed in the gut.
